Real Media Texts Which Have Influenced Production

For the old narrative the research into real media texts came when I watched several horror movies to grasp the conventions of the horror genre. The movies I watched were: Disturbia, Psycho, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Scream, Prom Night, Halloween, Alien, Sinister, Cabin In The Woods, One Missed Call and The Devil Inside. I watched trailers for all of them just to see how a trailer should be executed. I was going to use a masked villain in my trailer and that idea came from the film Scream. The use of weapon was going to be a knife and that came from Psycho. Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Disturbia, Prom Night and Scream. The narrative before had the sub genre being a slasher but the new narrative is now a physiological supernatural horror.

For the new narrative the research into real media texts came when I decided to watch more films and trailers that were supernatural to fit with  the sub genre that we had chosen for our movie. The films I watched were: Thirteen Ghosts, The Sixth Sense, Dead Silence and The Evil Dead. I enjoyed all of these films as in Thirteen Ghosts, several deformed characters were shown and in my group and I's trailer, there's a dead person who looks injured and deformed. The narrative for some of these movies were similar to the concept for the narrative of my trailer. The Evil Dead came the closest as an audio tape releases the spirits and demons and make the group of people suffer from demonic possession. In my trailer the main girl releases the spirit of the dead person as she takes a necklace from a graveyard belonging to the dead person. Dead Silence also wakes up a ghost, The Sixth Sense is about a boy who can speak to dead people and Thirteen Ghosts is where a mechanism activates the ghosts which similarly is part of the narrative for my trailer.

I have chosen some scenes from the four supernatural movies I listed which influence the production of my trailer. The titles from The Evil Dead say 'Once you unleash evil, it will consume you', this is the direction my group and I want to take in the narrative for our trailer as the main girl Riley unleashes the dead person by taking her necklace, it will show how her life is going to change forever for waking up the dead, it will literally consume her. The way the titles have simple font and its white on a black background is something I may want to have in my trailer. I want the words to be more effective than the colours used so that the audience feel a sense of fear. I have chosen four different ghosts from those movies to show how the main ghost in my trailer will look similar. She will have blood on her and look quite pale like the ghosts in the images look. I have chosen to display a graveyard in the daytime and a graveyard in the night time as we want to film in a graveyard in both the day and night as it will link with our narrative. Graveyards typically come up in horror movies so by incorporating a graveyard setting in our trailer, we are including iconography that is usually found within a horror movie.
